LOW INCOME? LOW COST VET CARE IN KW!
EVAH's mission statement is offering veterinary services low-income residents can afford. While open recently in the KW area they have operated successfully in London, Ontario.
The basic idea for a not-for-profit vet clinic is one she got from Europe, and something she hopes to spread across Canada where these services are "desperately needed." Owner, Dr. Martha Harding, was quoted by CBC News as saying,
"I think it's the right of everybody to have a pet," she said. "Regardless of income."
"There is much data to show that low income individuals are happier, our senior citizens stay more active, our neighbours with mental health [issues] have fewer catastrophic events, if there is a pet — a friend — in the home."
Although located in Kitchener, pet-owners from across Southern Ontario are reaching out to East Village for help caring for their animals.
Keeping costs down means that EVAH depends on not only their “Donation Jar” but on numerous fundraising activities such as the PET PICTURES WITH SANTA event coming up on December 2nd. Everyone wants a photo of his or her favourite fur baby with the jolly old fellow. Here’s your chance. For ONLY $10 you can have a professional photo of your pet and Santa Claus taken by FoJo Photography. All funds raised by this event support low-income veterinary programs. This is an “OPEN HOUSE” event so not only do you get a photo of your pet with Santa but also there will be a bake sale and crafts available as well as free hot drinks.
